Facts about the FNE:

The FlagThe FNE flag waves proudly on its stand as a symbol of the vigilance of the Explorer. The white represents the brightness of day, the black, the darkness of night. "By day and by night," the Explorer labors in its effort for honor, duty, and character, just as the soul never ceases in its vigil. The white also symbolizes the pure Love of Christ, which conquers and rises above the bleakness of death and sin. Thus, the FNE flag always stands to lead the way for the adventurer.

The EmblemThe emblem of the FNE, the Maltese Cross, represents the ideals of Catholic leadership and heroism. The red symbolizes the Blood of Christ, shed during His Passion; the gold symbolizes His Glorious Light. The Fleur-de-Lys, with its three petals, symbolizes the tenets of the Explorer: freedom, dedication, and purity. It points heavenward, to the Love of God. The eight points of the Maltese Cross represent the Eight Beatitudes uttered by Our Lord during the Sermon on the Mount.

The Coat of ArmsThe FNE Coat of Arms centers the Sacred Heart of Jesus surrounded by a crown of thorns. The six-pointed star of Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception and the patroness of the United States, stands vigil at the upper left; the trillium, the provincial flower of Ontario, sits at the upper right. It symbolizes St. Joseph, the patron of Canada. Together, they form the Holy Family. Three Fleur-de-Lys adorn the red chevron, symbolizing the Holy Trinity and the blood of Christ and the martyrs. The blue at the top shows the mantle of Our Lady's motherly protection.
